About NIWA ART HOUSE
Niwa Art House hosts process art classes and artsy fun-filled play groups for young artists. In these classes, your child will have the freedom to explore materials and techniques, get messy, and have fun! Every child's unique ideas are heard and encouraged.
The word Niwa means backyard in Japanese. I chose a Japanese word for my art studio to honor my daughter and partner's Japanese roots. Niwa is pronounced nee-wa.

Niwa Art House is led by me- Emily Hall Kumazawa- a practicing artist and mother. Since becoming a mother, I have led children's art classes from my home and with Cicada School House here in New Orleans.
During the pandemic I concentrated on continuing my studies in children's education. I started leading art classes because I love watching our youngest artists create and discover. Children have the best and most creative ideas and NIWA gives them space to explore, question and listen to their own inner voices. In the backyard studio we focus on the process more than the product.
My studies are in architecture and art history with a focus on visual arts at Barnard College/Columbia University with a master's degree in painting with a focus on mixed media from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have received several artist grants including the Virginia Museum of Art Fellowship and attended several residencies including the Frank Lloyd Wright Institute at Taliesin. My work has been shown across the country from NYC to SF. Some of my work.
